Author, head of the Österreichische Lichtbild und Filmdienst, comments on the headway made in Schulkino, thanks in large part to small-gauge film, which allows safe screenings of mostly short films inside the classroom. Obstacles remain, though, such as the finance required to buy projection equipment and a sufficient stock of films. The latter point requires a central organization, for which recently the minister of Education has initiated an Unterrichtsfilmaktion, an arrangement to create a budget—partly financed by raising tuition—for the acquisition of 16mm educational films, albeit only for Bundesmittelschulen for the time being. The author's organization will be responsible for this arrangement's implementation. With a body of teachers (Beirat) a list of themes will be drawn up to decide on which topics films will be made.
